Hey, it sounds pretty neat, but doesn't sound a whole lot like Oldskool Hip-Hop. It sounds more technological than a breakbeat. There is no beat in this song anyway, which does make the scratching noise sound more like a wobbling synth wave, which is an effect you can get easily in most production programs nowadays. Also, your hi-hats are ineffective, and sound kind of bland. Try modifying your sounds by pitch or length to make it sound a little more like your own. Anyways, keep practicing, my friend!

I like the way it sounds, but it isn't really techno. It sounds more like industrial music to me. Also, the drums could've been more varied to lean a bit more towards IDM music, but its alright. Good attempt!

I liked where the song was going, but then it became too repetitious. Also, the "138 In Progress" sample is well-known throughout the FL Studio community. Again, like the recently submitted song, use more variety! He he. I'll cut you slack, though, since this is old. Just don't stop composing, please. We need more composers like you who have good ideas. Just come up with better ones. =]

SonicJ responds:

Hey, thanks for the review!
As long as theres people like you willing to give your time to critique my work, I am always grateful.
For the time being, thats all I had to work with :\ Im using fl studio 7, and in mu humble opinion doesn't seems to cover as much ground as far as sounds it came with. would you happen to know where I could download the demo version of fl studio 6? Also a person like me would need people like you :D
I love positive reinforcement. It's my motivation :D

Yet again, another masterful piece. Have you taken composition classes, read tutorials, or just learned through trial and error? How long have you been making music? I seriously must ask because your artworks are tremendously appealing to my ears. Its very professional, and I think you should really get into the music business with what you've done. Your latest submission is a little better than this, but they're both equally stunning. This is pro. Excellent work, indeed.

CrohnTheViper responds:

Actually, most of them started of with a "I feel like making this sort of song" and then it turned into a song...eventually. I do go to choral classes at my school and my dad is a musician so I get a lot of help to know what sounds good. I've got a couple other songs as well, so I might post some of them.

I don't think you know what its like to be a part of the audience, rather than the composer for once, hearing a composition as beautiful and almost utterly perfect (there is no such thing as perfect) as this. You've made a hefty contribution by sending this in, really! For a video game song, this is pure bliss. I couldn't be more happy with the results of this song. You sir, have won my rare 10/10 review score. Everything about this song, the drum beat, the little bloop noises, the rattle noise, the acid, the sound effects... it all adds up to create one of the best songs I have ever heard. Keep doing what you're doing, because I think newgrounds deserves more music like this. Superb job, and a well done!

CrohnTheViper responds:

Wow, thanks for the awesome review! It took me awhile to make this one because of how many different effects I had to put on the alien-like sound in the background to make it sound that way. Anywho, I'm glad you're pleased with it!

Its a cool song on its own, but I just didn't like some of the sounds. Specifically the old moog sounding instruments. They sound really old, like a badly-made 80s film. Also, there wasn't much to the composition but a lot of jumping around and erratic uses of synthetic noises. Anyways, you still did a good job. I've also never seen Don't Wake Robby, but I'm sure it sounds good paired with this song. Anyways, please don't take this offensively. It still sounds cool. He he. Keep up the good work, my friend!

Bobert-Rob responds:

Yeah, I should work on using better instruments for it. I enjoy it myself, but I have an odd taste in music anyway. And don't worry, I didn't take offense, I still have a lot to learn about the creation of music. Thanks for the honest review!

I'll give you two reasons why I gave you a 2/5. Firstly, this isn't really a techno song. This is more of an experimental and video game song. Be sure to properly categorize your music. Not everything that sounds electronic is generally techno. Secondly, the song is way too repetitive for my liking. There was hardly any variation, and it got somewhat annoying to listen to. So, I hope you didn't expect too much out of me. It has its own cool sound on the bright side, so keep it up. Keep doing what you do, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I hope your next submissions are bit more appropriate for their genre, though. He he. Keep that in mind. =]

CaptinChu responds:

Thanks. I really wasn't sure what genre it belong to. It was extremely repetitive, however, since it's just an experiment. There was absolutely no variation at all. In fact, I don't really think it's much of a song. Whatever. Thanks for your review!

This is a funky beat. It was cool placing synth chords in. It really made your version of this song sparkle. Keep it up, man!

Your song isn't bad at all, but it kind of drifts. What gives it an 8 rather than 7 on the review scale is that it reminds me of when I played Civilization IV, which I seriously need to get back into. You learn a lot from that game! Erm... anyways, you did a good job on making it sound human, and I like that. It sounds somewhat like renaissance music, only if it were probably a harpsichord. Ha ha. Anyways, keep up the great work! The ending delay was pretty cool, by the way. =]

Need I really say more? I mean, its nice to hear another opinion, but mine would definitely be a replica of these two other reviewers. You did a hell of a good job on this song. I won't subtract points for it being in the 'wrong' category, like you said. It still sounds beautiful, and I'm happy you submitted this to newgrounds. This is going to definitely place in the charts, and circulate for a while. I wish you well, man. Take care, and keep up the awesome work!

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Haha it's only in the Classical section for now so it doesn't get emmediatley zero voted since I have more of a fan base here. I'll probubly move it to easy listening or something later.

I hope it makes the top charts... your 5 votes are the only thing that can make that happen and I thank you for them.

Thanks for the review.

Sincerely,
MMD
